Escazu HHH
The Jurassic Hash
Costa Rica, Central AmericaFounded January 10, 2005
A mixed pack of some 12 or so hounds consisting of mostly veteran San José HHH members who run MONDAYS at 5:00 pm around towns of Santa Ana - Escazú area, 5-8 kms or 15-20 minutes west of S.J. which can been reached via good bus services or contact us for help. Many of the EHHH continue to run with the SJH3 on their Thursday Hashes at 4 pm.
Escazú HHH pack pedigree ranges from US, British (English & Welsh), Canadian, Costa Rican, Belgium to South African and Island Hoppers!
Due to hilly mountainous and sometimes rough terrain, darkness at 6 pm and pack ages, run distances are usually short compared to other hashes at 4-5 Km or 3 miles or so which result in 3/4 to 1 hr runs-walks.
Domestic Beers names range from world renown German style lagers of: Imperial, Pilsen and Bavaria to the locally brewed Dutch Suds of Heineken and generally have a 4.5% to 5 % alcohol content.
Most beers sell for about $2.00 in Bars and $1.20 in Supermarkets.
The Escazú Hashes are often at a private venues like the Hare's home for which the Hare collects a quota of C2,000 or $4 per Hasher to cover his cost of having cold beer and "Bocas" (Morsels) on hand.
Hares at private venues usually have some brew on hand (free or for sale) for those who forget to bring their own and for new boots who didn't read this.
If held at a Public Establishment i.e. Bar / Restaurant it's buy your own brew and food.
EH3 . . . Our Hashtory
Many of the old Hashers from the SJH3 found themselves unable to attend Saturday events, or were just plain tired of spending Saturday after Saturday with the San Jose Hash House Harriers, instead of with their families, mistresses, or work. For quite awhile the conversation of starting a new Monday Hash had been bouncing around. Going back to the ways of the original Monday night group was on the minds of many who still yearned to Hash.
On January 10th of 2005, urged on by the support of several "old-timers", Millard "Fancy Pants" Farmer finally set the first run at Bar Los Amigos in Santa Ana (the Hash group had yet to be named). Fifteen hashers showed up for this first run, most from the past and with plenty of recognizable smiles. It was hard to believe that some of these faces were still in Costa Rica, let alone, still alive. But was this just to be a one-time Reunion of the early years of the SJH3, or was this the makings of a second running Hash House Harrier Chapter here in Costa Rica? Only the coming year would tell!
